Girls Part 2

Here are some of the quips & suggestions in Chapter 10 - (Fathers to Daughters), of Bringing up Girls. They are actually taken from another book entitled 'Father to Daughter: Life Lessons on Raising a Girl'.

1. Remember, if you yell at a boy not to play with a wall socket, he'll either stomp off or do it anyway. A girl will cry. (Had to laugh at this - so true).
2. Her mom will show her how to bake choc chip cookies. You show her how to dunk them in milk.
3. Teach her to count. First her fingers. Then cheerios, M & Ms, dandelions, and fireflies
4. Give her a picture of you (dad) to put in her first purse. If you're lucky, she'll always carry a photo of you.
5. Little girls are fascinated by escalators. Make sure you hold hands.
6. Make her a Valentine's Day card- every year.
7. Make up stories to tell each other at night. Stretch her imagination.
8. Never laugh at her dreams
9. Teach her to read between the lines. Remember, though, that she will probably have a better natural ability for this than you :)
10. Remember, teenage girls spend hours in their room doing something. No man has ever really figured out what that something is.
11. Accept the fact that girls squeal when they're happy or confused or excited or because they just saw a certain boy in line
12. Take long walks with her. If you just listen, she'll eventually tell you everything that's on her mind
13. Teach her how to look a boy in the eye and say "No"
14. Wait up for her
15. Prepare for the day when you're not the most important man in her life.
