“I have been thinking about another kind of bee,” said Grandma. “Do they sting, like the bees in the orchard?” asked Joyce, with a little shiver. “Their stings are much sharper,” answered Grandma, “and the pain lasts much longer. There is a hive full of these bees.”
Thankyou sister- for your loan of this little book! Each chapter is a character building story, such as "Bee gentle", "Bee grateful". The boys look forward to hearing the next chapter each school morning and fire me with questions for discussion afterwards. The same virtues you talk about already, but somehow they seem to stick better in the mind of a child in this story format. In fact, Caleb, on hearing a yr 12 student give a speech recently, pricked up his ears because she had started her speech with the words "to be honest....." He was thinking of the "bee honest" chaper we'd read! And Sarah learned the hard way, the sting of the Bee obedient... I'd just put a biscuit tray straight out of the oven onto the bench as I said to Sarah not to touch it- it's hot. But, alas, for some reason, she stuck out her hand and touched it, ow! And so, that lesson was reinforced for her!!
